Bwindi National Park is suitably located in the South Western part of Uganda and it is a 9 hours drive from Kampala the capital and biggest city of Uganda. It is naturally shared by 3 big districts in Uganda namely; Kanungu, Kabala and Kisoro. It is gifted with over 110 mammals which include the big ones like; the forest elephants, Bush pigs, Giant forest hog, Black-fronted Duiker, Yellow-backed Duiker are also inclusive.  It’s only in the impenetrable Bwindi where you find the highest number of gorillas including the mountain ones since it occupies almost a half of the whole world’s mountain gorillas.

It has the different gorilla families like; Mubare gorilla family which is the oldest and was the 1st one to be habituated in Uganda. It is made up of 5 members with Ruhondeza as the 1st head and after him being attacked by the other wild group and run away, Kashundwe became the head because it is the only silverback in the group. Habinyanja gorilla family is made up of 15 members with 2 silverbacks which keep fighting for power. Bitukura is also another gorilla family in Bwindi and it is made up of 12 members with 4 silverbacks who also can never decide who to lead the group.

Nkuringo gorilla family has 19 members with only 2 silverbacks. Nshongi gorilla family is also a family in the Impenetrable and it has more than 36 members with 5 silverbacks which disagree every hour for the head of the group. 348 species of birds are recorded in Bwindi where 25 restricted-range species, 23 confirmed AlbertineRift and they include; African Green Broadbill, Graver’s Rush Warbler, Chapins flycatchers, Shelley’s crimson-wing and many more. There are also 27 amphibians, 14 snake species, 6 species of lizards, 220 butterfly species and 240 tree species.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: From Entebbe – Bwindi

After breakfast set off for the 9 hour drive South Western of Kampala. Short stop at the Equator for nice photo shots, souvenirs and lunch. On your way you will enjoy scenery views of different mountains and beautiful plantations.  Look out for the climbing lion in Isasha Sector. Arrive at Buhoma in Bwindi. Check in at the hotel and relax. Dinner and overnight at Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge (Full Board)

Day 2: Mountain Gorilla Tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Park.

Wake up for cheerful cup of coffee in preparations for the most interesting activity in the world. We shall be guided by a very experienced English speaking guide at the ranger station, have a briefing and enter the gorilla shelter with the help of the good caring ranger for the most enjoyable activity in the world, Gorilla tracking. There are more than five family groups of the gorillas to track in Bwindi and we may see; Nkuringo group with 19 members and 2 silverbacks who also fight for leading the family,

The tracking activity may take us between 4 to 8 hours the fact being that the activity of tracking the gentle giants is so un predictable making it so hard to be sure of the time you are to hike, sit patiently in the rainforest and enjoy viewing the different gorillas as they crack and play with each other through the high canopy of the forest as the colorful birds call to each other near by. Walk through the impenetrable forest in search of other groups that u might have not seen and other primates, thus a steady pair of walking shoes is needed as well as a reasonable degree of fitness. Take lunch and we go visit another memorable site in the forest. Dinner and over night at Dinner and overnight at Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge (Full Board)

Day 3: Batwa cultural Trail and Yoga  Session overlooking Bwindi Gorilla forest

Batwa. The Batwa are Uganda’s marginalized people and are viewed with derision by most of the Ugandan Nationals. The Batwa have lived their lives to current generations by hunting and gathering in the forest. The visit to the Batwa invariably involves songs and a dance demonstration, and once the music begins you can’t help but notice that they project a genuine pride in themselves. You shall then return to the lodge for lunch and enjoy a Yoga session overlooking Bwindi Gorilla forest as you meditate and relax your muscles. Enjoy your evening at leisure as you prepare yourselves for the next day’s journey. Dinner and overnight at Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge (Full Board)

Day 4: Bwindi National park – Entebbe.
